Subaru’s served up its latest Impreza on an all-new platform, but the WRX and WRX STI haven’t been treated to the same overhaul.

Instead, Subaru’s revealed both performance models with ‘optimised’ dynamic packages, revised styling, and more safety tech for the new model year.
The 2018 Subaru WRX and WRX STI are distinguished by a new front bumper, plugged with redesigned LED headlights and a larger lower grille.
The range-topping WRX STI rolls on new 19-inch wheels. The largest ever wheel used by a WRX, and the new wheel size allows the fitment of larger front six-piston Brembo calipers.
They’re complimented new monoblock two-pot Brembo calipers up back, along with new pads and slotted discs feature all round.
The WRX, meanwhile, debuts a newly designed 18-inch wheel, and although its brake system is carried over unchanged, owners can now option Jurid brake pads.
Inside, the WRX STI’s seatbelts are now finished in red, while electric powered front Recaros are an option for the first time in both models.

The glass in the front doors of both cars has also been thickened to cut outside noise.
Subaru’s focused on improving ride and stability for both cars, while also lightening and refining the WRX’s electric steering system.
The WRX STI’s adjustable centre differential system’s also been looked at, which is now fully electronically controlled.
Each car’s engines have been left untouched. As the WRX STI carries over the old 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder boxer and the WRX a 2.0-litre dual-injected unit.
There are also a slew of new safety and assistance features. Swivelling headlights, a new collision avoidance monitor, and auto-handbrake system debut on certain variants.
Subaru Australia says it’s in the process of finalising specification and can’t confirm when the car will arrive down under.
